I am a certified teacher running a tutoring center in the Chester Upland School District of Pennsylvania. I love the kids that I tutor, but I feel great pain when I see them struggling. There is one boy in particular, I'll call him, "the boy who couldn't," because he struggles with reading skills. He is an 8th grader at a charter school here in Chester. He is struggling to read at a 3rd to 4th grade reading level and has never been tested to find out what might be the reason for his struggles. When I tell you that he's a decent and good and kind kid, that's an understatement. He has a good family, unlike many of Chester's children, and they DO care about him and his education. The thing about chester folks is that many are low income and under educated. They tend to hope for the best, rather than take things into their own hands and make the best happen. That's why this blog. I would like to see this young man attend a school next year where he might actually learn something, even if it be a struggle, rather than going to Chester High School where he may be teased and taunted because he IS a good kid. Might there be someone out there in blog land who would consider helping me help him to go to private school? It's gonna take money, that's the bottom line! I'm living on a teacher's salary. I can't do it myself. Could you, would you help. If everyone who reads this blog could send $1.00 to me, maybe together we can help this stuggling student. By the way, his mother is planning to have him continue tutoring with us, no matter the case. It isn't cheap to keep a kid in long term tutoring, so, mom is doing her part the best she knows how. Please help. Send donations to KPLC, 1213 Central Avenue, Chester, PA 19013. Thank for reading.
